Point Nemo is a visual novel that follows a terminally ill alchemist’s journey to finding a cure for themselves. While the final game is purely a visual novel, initial planning intended to include a crafting system that functions as a means of creating and researching potions to help the alchemist mind a cure.

This mechanic was supposed to further flesh out narrative options and encourage players to venture into the woods more often. It was cut out due to time restraint as well as technical difficulties when it came to implementing the main dialogue system, and as such the core system required for the game was prioritized
instead.

Narrative Design

The full plot of Point Nemo was outlined after brainstorming, after receiving the greenlight to proceed with this narrative I created a narrative graph, and began writing how each of the different endings will play out. At this point I began working on the script, trying to experiment with the perspective and character voice I wanted for my character.

Implementation

To successfully create a branching narrative I worked on creating a working dialogue system using Unity’s graph tool kit. By creating individual nodes, I could add them to the dialogue graph and load them into the game, attaching and branching the narrative in the sections I wanted.
